The Craigdarroch Castle Historical Museum Society is a charitable organization, whose mission is to preserve Craigdarroch Castle and bring its stories to life. Craigdarroch Castle is a designated National Historic Site with annual visitation of 140,000 and is open year round providing a wide range of visitor services to an international clientele.
We're looking for an Operations and Development Manager
This is a full time position with a starting salary $48,000 annually that will be reviewed upon successful completion of the 6-month probationary period.
Reporting to the executive director, the operations and development manager’s responsibility will encompass daily museum operations, business and member development as well as event and program development/management.
Duties include but are not limited to:
Managing visitor service staff and volunteers
Contributing to the development of business and membership strategy
Performing sales calls, attending industry meetings and trade shows
Managing social media channels and assisting with newsletter and website content development
Managing and increasing efficiencies for events and programs
The successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years experience in operation or business management roles.
You will have demonstrated experience with performance management, coaching and supervision. You are able to assess the department’s staffing recruitment and training needs and can collaborate with department heads to ensure necessary support or training is developed and delivered.
Long term planning skills and the ability to adapt quickly to changing situations are important in order to deliver quality seasonal programming and peak season visitor service. You will often be required to be present on the museum floor to assist during tours and events.
You are familiar with CMS and CRM applications, proficient in MS Office and offer excellent computer skills. Cash handling experience is an asset.
You have proven skill and ability to maintain strong relationships with industry partners and the Society’s members as well as a demonstrated commitment to high professional ethical standards and a diverse workplace.
As the successful applicant will, on occasion, be required to travel for business a valid driver’s licence is required. The current work schedule is Tuesday to Saturday with some evening shifts to facilitate events and programs.

Permanent Part-time Housekeeper
The museum is expanding and our new visitor centre is scheduled for completion in September. With the coming changes, the Museum Society is looking for a permanent part-time housekeeper to join our restoration and maintenance department. The successful applicant will have demonstrated cleaning experience and a sensitive touch for working in the museum rooms located in the late Victorian era building.
Housekeepers at Craigdarroch Castle are responsible for the day to day cleaning and presentation of the museum as well as additional public and staff spaces in the visitor centre. The Castle is a National Historic Site with over 160,000 visitors a year so the successful applicant must be energetic and outgoing. You will work constantly in the public eye and must always be willing to provide assistance or to answer a question.
Your duties will include ensuring that washroom facilities are clean, tidy, and presentable. You will vacuum carpets, clean hardwood floors, and dust the furniture and paneling. You may also assist with occasional cleaning of the Museum's period rooms and may be required to assist with building or grounds maintenance tasks.
The successful applicant will be respectful, friendly, and well presented and work well with other members of the team. You need flexibility and resourcefulness and should readily adapt to changes in your work environment. You will work independently and need to manage your time efficiently to set and accomplish your goals.
Workdays are Sunday through Thursday in the mornings for a total of 25 hours per week. There may be occasional evening shifts during the summer or for special events. On successful completion of the 6-month probationary period you are eligible to participate in our group benefit package. Remuneration is $15.42 per hour and the successful applicant is required to join CUPE Local 3136. Anticipated start date is September 2017.
